I Heard It Through The Grapevine Guitar Chords

One thing that has helped me throughout my music career is my foundation playing in the school band. What I learned in the school band is how to learn and practice new music. Many times when learning a new song you will have the desire to learn it all the way through but that is not the correct way. Perfect practice makes perfect. The right way to learn how to play a song is to learn it bar by bar. In music a bar is based on the key signature and the time that a song is in. Most music is written in what is known 4/4 time and that means that there are 4 beats per minute. This might mean that you will only learn how to strum a few notes or chords in a measure but you should chunk down your practice to getting each measure/part perfected before you move on to the next. If you practice like this you will really perfect a song and learn a ton of new skills. It might seem like too much jargon when we speak of measures so just think about it as learning tiny bits of a song and and learning another tiny bit as you perfect it. It is better to learn this way than to learn a lot of bad habits and to play horribly through an entire song. It is like a fun way to drill in new guitar skills as you learn a song.

There are many resources that you can use that will help you learn a lot faster. Check out Youtube videos for some free instruction. Watching someone do something is one of the best ways to learn. You will be able to see how they change chords through a song, their strumming technique and their finger placement for chords. They will even give you some tips on how to get better.

You can also find guitar courses online or via paid video that will give you a curriculum that will help you develop guitar skills in a structured way. For some people this is the best way for them to learn and to track their progress.
